An apple a day

“An apple a day,” they said,

She ate two just in case,

But every day came as before,

And her father still walked through the door.

He wrote all the time, he wrote every day,

And still his marks never improved,

“Stop over punctuating!” They said.

“There’s no need to put that there,”

“Not everything is exciting,”

“Exclamation points are not needed there!”

He found this most confusing.

For every single day,

He found most everything exciting.

He just saw the world that way.

The Pets Diary: Cats and Dogs

Woke up. Sun hot. Good day. Best Time.

And so begins the 245th day of my imprisonment.

Breakfast. Meat good. Best time.

I wonder how long they will continue to feed me this slop. I might kill a bird later and have a proper meal …

Walk time. Best time. Saw possum. Chased it. Best time!

I managed to find a small patch of sun. I almost enjoyed it until the small human pulled me away by my tail.

Bed time. Sleepy. Tired. Best time.

And so ends another day of incarceration…

In the early morn,

Before the humans woke,

The orange rolled away,

Off the counter,

And to its freedom,

Out the back door.

Full of hope,

The egg followed.
